Persona 4

School's finally out for me, which means I have time to paint and work on commissions and so fourth! I keep hearing about these new-fangled water soluble oil paints (well, maybe not that new), and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with them and if they could tell me how they compare to normal oils? I love using oils, I'm just a bit sick of the thinner and breathing in the fumes every time I want to paint.

Anyway... [livejournal.com profile] heart_mint finally got her copy of Persona 4, and started to play it a few days ago. I was pleased to find out that I liked everything about it way more than Persona 3. I didn't have very high hopes for the game, honestly, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt to me like more of a throwback to the older Persona games, with references (like Chie's kung-fu) and general character dynamics. I also liked the protagonist more... go figure. He seemed more dorky and less "too cool for school" the way the P3 protag was.

But anyway, I won't rant on too much about it since I'm sure other people with similar opinions are much more articulate than I.

I did doodle a little bit, but not as much as I would like to. I had to spare some time of my day for painting and other trivial things.

Was watching my sis play Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for the past few days. I guess that means I have to draw fanart...

That about sums it up. Emil is gay for Richter. Richter is gay for Aster.

Farin

I keep putting off my design projects to work on illustration projects. I guess that shows where my priorities lie.

I had to choose a musician to draw for a hypothetical illustration for the Rolling Stones magazine, and since one of my classmates accused me of being unable to draw men, I decided to take him up on the challenge.

I chose to draw Farin Urlaub, of die Ärzte fame. I wanted to try another method of CG to see if it works better for me. I'm not too sure if I like it or not, but I think I'll have to try it a bit more to really decide. So here are the steps I took and stuff. Not a tutorial by any means, just showing some progress.

Man, my life is dull.

Also, my copy of the Fables Covers book finally arrived!

It's so beautiful..! It's pretty awesome as well, it includes progress and thumbnails, and it's a great price for such a big book.
I found out today that James Jean is having a show in New York... the day after I leave. How disappointing...

And also, a painting I did for practice:

I finished penciling the other one-shot, and am just inking it right now. Since inking is a relatively stress-free, quick, and brainless activity, I have energy to think about things like... other one-shots.

So, characters from another one-shot.

My sis finished playing Innocent Sin last night, so here's a quick doodle of Jun.

She's starting on Tales of Symphonia 2 right now. Hur hur hur, Richter.

My sketchbook ran out a few days ago, and I've yet to get a new one. It's just a task I haven't gotten around to, and am now forced to draw in a half-sized book with inferior paper. I am sometimes charmed by small little books, so every so often I'd find myself with a small sketchbook in my hand a few dollars poorer. However, I don't actually like to draw in a small book. I think part of the reason is that I don't like to rest my wrist on the edge of the paper, and when the book is small, the edges are just that much closer.

But I digress...

Me and [livejournal.com profile] cloverx have been working on a one-shot for the rumored December release of Rush. I'm not so sure if it's actually coming out or not, but that is what I hear.

As we're not sure if it's coming out in the beginning or end of December, we decided to not take our chances and finish the story as quickly as possible. Which meant that I had to pencil 32 pages in around 5 days or so. I'm inking it now.

Here is one of the pages:

Does anyone remember the sketchbook I was selling a while ago?

Well, it looks like we still have a few stacks left, so... I just want to get rid of them.
Please support us! And buy a copy!

Anyway, I'm marking the price down to $5.50, but the cover would be random, seeing as how I really don't know which ones are left...

Also, I printed quite a few copies of my Colours comic as well. It's 16 pages, fully coloured. There's actually type in the bubbles as well.

So, if you want a copy of that as well, I'll include that for $10 for both books. Sorry, you can't get the Colours book on its own because it was a self-promotion thing for me and I really shouldn't be selling it.

To sum it up, if you'd like a copy of the sketchbook, it'd be 9.50, shipping included.

If you'd like the Colours book as well, it's $16.40, shipping included. Sorry, guys. Shipping costs a lot. All the profits are going towards my program's fund raising efforts.

Thanks so much!

A pic of Kakyoin:

I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately. I'm not sure if it's the stress of school weighing down on me, or if it's just the weather. If it's the weather, I hope the weather goddamn changes soon.

The other day, I was watching my sister play Innocent Sin, and she got to that one bit in the Sky Museum where Tatsuya has to catch Maya, and his Persona comes out for a few moments. I thought it was Apollo's hand, so I thought it strange since the persona he had wasn't Apollo.
So I said this:

"Is his stand Apollo?"

My sister stared at me.

A portrait

I drew a portrait for self promotion. It's on my business card right now, but I may change the entire concept from the bottom up.

I'm... uhm... I'm not sure what else to say.

I'm very tired. I think I'll go to sleep now.

I probably should've posted this before the other one, since the scene is technically before it. Well... Oh well. :/

Having a bit of trouble with my business card and self-promo package. I wanted to redo it with a military theme, but I wouldn't have time, not for marks at least. I'm hoping that when I do my portfolio site, it doesn't need to be consistent with the rest of my promotional package because redoing a site would take a lot longer.

Anyway, I ran down to Golden Ages yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] heart_mint and [livejournal.com profile] snowpanda_zero to see if they'd pick up the HS books. The owner didn't exactly seem very interested on the phone, so I didn't go in with very high hopes. Fortunately, he liked the book enough to pick up 3 copies, so it's now available there! Yay! The rest of the staff was super nice though, we kind of stood there for a really long time talking to them.

In any case, I came home a bit later to draw Jojo fanart with absolutely no reference. For any of it. So please excuse any mistakes on both parts.

I really despise flash, with the burning intensity of a thousand firey suns.
It's unfortunate, because I'm required to spend at least one afternoon a week learning how to use the despicable program. Today I gave up half-way through the lesson (my button wouldn't make a sound that went "whoop".) and spent the rest of the time doodling instead.

Anyway.

This was not what I drew, but it's close.

I started out drawing a group pic of All The Characters in Jojo who have Half a Brain, but it eventually turned into Orgy of All My Favorite Characters. So I went along with that.

It's Thanksgiving today, here in the Great Soviet Canuckastan.
Or perhaps it's tomorrow. I can't really remember, but it should be within these two days, and the only reason I know that much is because I happen to have a day off from school tomorrow.

In any case, I haven't been doing much the past few days except for a whole lot of nothing. School has been catching up to me, but I'm glad that my Applied Design teacher finally approved my logo concept. That class has seriously been hell for me, because he always rejected every single idea I had.

It was probably also hell for my friends too, as I whined at them non-stop about it. Well, it's all over now! Until the next project.

But I digress.

Here's a poster that [livejournal.com profile] panda_ne commissioned me to do for a party she's in charge of, because who she originally wanted to ask wasn't available, and I can whip up a poster in two days.

Tongue Party, she told me it was, )

And some CG practice. I would give my left arm to draw like Jon Foster. I would give my right arm too, actually, provided I can draw like Jon Foster using my left arm. Or my foot, even.

Been revamping some (most) of the Megiddo characters, because I realized that in trying to be realistic, all the designs turned out rather (really) boring. It's not really just a problem of being boring, but that I doubt anyone aside from me will be able to tell one character from the other as they all look the same.

Wilst was one of the characters that got revamped, and I was just practicing CG with him.

Jojo Meme

This is the first time I've ever filled out an art meme. I usually don't try to approach them as I figured that I'd be way too lazy to actually finish filling them. Or that there are certain questions that I don't feel like doing. This meme was pretty fun all the way though though, although I was somewhat surprised that I managed to finish it... seeing how lazy I am.

Nothing exactly original here, once again. Drawn for [livejournal.com profile] heart_mint so that she won't strangle me for... not drawing this.

Giorno/Mista. Photo reference was used (for the pose, not for the characters), but I can't for the life of me remember the source. I'm almost certain that Michi sent me the photo.

Fascinatingly unoriginal )

I also spent a riveting afternoon learning how to program forms in Dreamweaver; my heart quickens with the mention of such an exciting day. So of course, I spent all the time in between paying attention randomly clicking the screen in a futile effort to escape the (bath) room. It didn't work out too well, I got stuck pretty quickly.

Other news, I love the song Academia by Sia.

I finally got pchat to work! Wanna pchat, [livejournal.com profile] metanomaly???

It was [livejournal.com profile] heart_mint's birthday today, so I went on pchat. (Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] heart_mint.)

I asked [livejournal.com profile] cloverx who I should draw, and she said Johan, so.

Few Johan pics )

And I drew Giorno. I like Giorno.
