pilot_starToday is my burfday! Wau!
Anyway, not a lot happened. For an assignment, I have to paint part of my city, and because there's this abandoned shipyard down by where I live, I decided to paint that area.
I had to go in to take photo-references, and it seemed like the whole place was being teared down to make way for hotels, skyscrapers, or something decidedly unimportant. The area was fenced off, and photos that I had taken from the outside weren't so much useless, per say, as not as useful as they can be.
So I dragged a friend along with me and we snuck in.
It was pathetically easy, actually. I originally thought that we'd have to climb over the gate, or across the water, but it turned out that where the fence attached to the railing, there was a gaping hole where we could shimmy around the gate. At one point when we were in there, a construction guy showed up and yelled "it's dangerous here", but then he left without really making sure that we left too.
Here are a few photos I took. Mind you, they're not the best, compositionally, as I was mainly thinking of using them as reference for my painting rather than trying to take a cool photo.
I really like this place, it's totally fawesome to the utmost degree.
Anyway, after that we went to a comic book shop that was like a block away, and my friend got me the first volume of Elephantmen for my birthday:
Seriously, I love the paper it's printed on! So smooooth... and thiiick... But it did make the volume seem a lot thicker than it was. I already own the first three issues, and honestly I still have no idea where the story is going. It's an interesting read though, although I wish the story would pick up a bit quicker.
